Collectivisation of Soviet Agriculture, The

Synopsis
The film uses the substantial documentary film studies on the collectivisation in parts of European Russia by Ilya Kopalin between 1929 and 1931, including the first experimental sound documentary on the countryside, ONE OF MANY: THE VILLAGE (1931). Victor Turin’s 1933 film THE WHITE SEA BALTIC WATERWAY inadvertently shows the fate of many of the peasantry and the link between collectivisation and the drive for industrialisation and economic development. Items from special newsreels for the countryside and for young people help to show the importance of the film medium to the propagandists at the time of this crucial turning point in Soviet history.
