City of Gold
- Synopsis
- A re-creation, with the aid of contemporary photographs, and based on old-time prospectors’ recollections, of the Klondike Gold Rush of 1896, the events and personalities which were part of it, and the growth and decay of its centre, Dawson City. The rusty locomotives of the Bonanza Creek railway, mouldering facades and mansions and hulks of stern-wheel ‘river palaces’ are among the few tangible remains of the days when gold dust and nuggets were the city’s common currency.
