Aerial Archaeology in Northern France: Detecting Protohistoric and Gallo-Roman Remains

Synopsis
Surface indications best seen from the air reveal the existence of archaeological remains beneath the great plains of Artois and Picardy. The discovery of this ‘hidden landscape’ and particularly of its Gallo-Roman remains (sanctuaries, villas and other rural dwellings) is used to illustrate the methods of aerial photography. The agricultural conditions when structures appear and the uses to which results are put.
