Church and the State, The

Synopsis
The conflict between the Tory party and church leaders about such questions as the Falklands service, a new and less militarist national anthem, and the British nuclear deterrent. The Church of England has traditionally been connected with the Conservatives, but in the 1930s many churchmen became concerned about poverty and social matters. Now the church leaders are critical of policies of monetarism causing unemployment, the Nationality Bill and public spending cuts.
