Synopsis
Pioneering cinéma verité documentary consisting of a series of interviews with a variety of real-life individuals in Paris and Saint-Tropez. The result is a film that questions the level of reality and truth in documentary filmmaking, as well as being a fascinating insight into 1960s Parisian society. Edited from 25 hours of film by anthropologist Rouch and sociologist Morin.

The BFI’s Dual Format (Blu-Ray + DVD) edition includes UN ETE + 50 (2011, 75 mins): a documentary with new interviews from participants and co-director Edgar Morin, as well as outtakes from CHRONICLE OF A SUMMER and an illustrated booklet with newly commissioned essays and notes on the film.
