Chole Island: A Woman’s Place
- Synopsis
- Shows the relations between men and women in a Tanzanian community which seem to conform to the Islamic ideal of segregation. All Swahili rituals, including marriage, involve hospitality. While the men confer on the veranda, female kin of the bride are pounding rice to prepare for the feasts. Their separation into two groups is as clear here as in everyday life.
