Advances in Ultrasonic Testing

Synopsis
The strength of welded joints can be seriously reduced by defects, both those introduced during welding and those which arise in service, such as fatigue cracks. For both critical welded joints in new products and the condition monitoring of plant in service, ultrasonic testing is now of particular interest because it offers a relatively accurate system to locate harmful flaws and measure their size. To improve the performance and reliability of ultrasonic testing, more advanced techniques are being investigated. Using both animation and demonstration, this film explains the operating principles and special features of the following techniques: B-Scan, Time of Flight, C-Scan, P-Scan and an automated system which automatically manipulates the probe to scan the work.*
