China: Education for a New Society

Synopsis
Education is portrayed in its varied context: all of China is seen as a school which transforms its pupils. Shots of Shao-Shan and Ch’ang-Sha, the locales of Mao’s youth, are used to demonstrate the inculcation through the Little Red Book of Maoist ideology. Kindergarten children are shown as involved in production and through drama learning the principles of the new society. Youth are shown participating in the new society. Concludes by pointing out that 50% of China’s population is under 25 years of age, their loyalty to Mao’s ideal is not to be questioned.
