Chiloscyllium Griseum: Life and Development
- Synopsis
- The mating behaviour of the grey bamboo shark (Chiloscyllium griseum) is observed. A remarkable feature is the male’s biting the pectoral fin of the female and shaking her vigorously. The copulation and fertilisation are shown in graphics. After the attachment of the eggs to coral rock by the female, one egg is taken out and prepared to make its sides clear in order to see the yolk and the embryo; this is also shown in drawings. The developmental stages of the embryo are observed for 80 days, until the hatching.
