Checkmate...? A Film About Brain Damage and Rehabilitation

Synopsis
Focuses on two men who have sustained brain damage through long-term exposure to solvents and chemical sprays at work. Unable to return to work, they become clines of the Family Centre for Brain Damage Victims in Aarhus, Denmark. A neurologist introduces the structure of the brain and describes how physical function is lost following brain injury. Shows areas of damage and the network of blood flow throught the brain, and relates this to the rehabilitation process and the importance of assessment and informed intervention. Also discusses the danger of mis-diagnosis and the inappropriate involvement of psychiatric services brough about by those who lack understand of an acquired organic brian injury.
