Celso and Cora

Synopsis
A portrait of a young couple and their two children living in Manila. They live in a squatters’ area in the city suburbs and scrape a living by selling cigarettes illegally outside a downtown hotel. The film is not so much concerned with their poverty but with the family’s way of life, their survival techniques and individual psychology. The story of their lives over a three-month period is constructed without commentary and concentrates on the concerns of the family itself rather than any wider political situation. Kildea stresses his own role, interacting with the family as he builds their story from episodes in their daily life.
