Cardiovascular Cat Preparation

Synopsis
Anaesthetized cat preparation showing arrangement for recording arterial blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate and depth, and for section and stimulation of vagal nerves in the neck. Demonstrated are the responses to clamping carotid arteries before and after section of vagal nerves, stimulation of afferent and efferent vagi, i.v. injections of acetyl choline and adrenaline before and after atropine, post-atropine stimulation of vagal nerves, competitive nature of atropine and the nicotinic effect of acetylcholine. The recording was made during a class demonstration and the audio, though with background external noise, discusses the effects seen.
