Cammino Degli Eroi, Il

Synopsis
A documentary account of the Italian conquest of Ethiopia which concentrates on the planning and the organisation that lay behind the ‘new African Empire’. In 13 sections, each of which is preceded by an explanatory introduction. The first sections show the preparations - the manufacture of food, clothing, footwear, aircraft and motor transport, the loading of supplies onto ships, the embarkation of troops. The middle sections are concerned with the troops in Ethiopia - building roads, railways, bridges, communications, providing medical facilities to Italians and natives alike - the civilising mission is stressed. The last part shows a brief section of actual fighting, culminating in the entry into Addis Abada and Mussolini’s reading of Badoglio’s victory telegram. Provides a fascinating Italian version of what was in fact the destruction of a defenceless tribal nation by a modern technological world power.
