Synopsis
Places calculus into the context of real-world problems. In three units, each of which begins with a documentary segment describing an actual problem, followed by a step-by-step worked solution: 1) RX for Calculus - Providing Safe and Effective Dosage: shows how calculus can be used to determine how much of a drug a patient needs, using the simple linear model, exponential decay, exponential graphs and integration; 2) Built by Calculus - dam Construction: shows how calculus is used in designing a dam to determine area, volume and pressure, employing the definite integral and discrete techniques; 3) Tracking a Killer - Epidemics: shows how calculus can be used to model the spread of a disease, emplying the simple exponential function and the differential equation.
