- Documents Papua New Guinea’s Independence Day celebrations in of 16 September 1975, comparing the pageantry of local celebrations with the official ceremony in the capital. Also provides historical background about the area’s 19th-century colonisation by Holland, Germany and Great Britain. Presents a blend of music, voices, radio broadcasts and found imagery illustrate the extraordinary juxtapositions in a society which has gone from head-hunting to democracy in less than a century. ‘Yumi yet’ is a Melanesian rallying cry meaning ‘just us’.
