Young and the Wave Theory of Light
- Synopsis
- A filmed lecture given by Sir Lawrence Bragg at the Royal Institution. Outlines the two contrasting theories of light (the particle theory and the wave theory) which were held in the 18th century. Describes and demonstrates Thomas Young’s pinhole experiment; an experiment which validated wave theory. Discusses diffraction, showing its effects with the use of Young’s original wave trough of 1800, and explains diffraction in a series of demonstrations.
