- A selection of nine official British government information films portraying Britain in the 1940s: 1) Village School (1940, 11 min): a picture of Ashley Green village school in Buckinghamshire, narrated by the headmistress whose problems include absorption of a number of refugees; 2) Eating Out with Tommy Trinder (1941, 6 min): Tommy Trinder is shown eating at official British restaurants during wartime, rationed Britain, including a self-service restaurant in Liverpool specially set up for people to eat in wartime; 3) Land Girl (1942, 8 min): how a land army girl adapts herself to working on a farm; 4) Pop Goes the Weasel (1948, 10 min): a simple explanation given by a park-keeper to a man sitting on a park bench, of how the money raised by taxation is divided out among the various services which the government provides for the public’s benefit. 5) London Airport (1949, 9 min): the building and development of Heathrow Airport from 1944, when it was begun, to 1949, by which time it had become truly international; 6) Berlin Airlift (1949, 10 min): how the RAF and US Air Force kept Berlin supplied with food, fuel and other necessities during the siege of the city; 7) Your Very Good Health (1948, 9 min): a humorous animation in which ‘Charley’ learns how the new National Health Service will affect him and his family; 8, 9): two bonus items. - Series
