Yang and Yin: Gender in Chinese Cinema
- Synopsis
- Film director Stanley Kwan traces the evolution of his identity as a gay man through the films he grew up with, demonstrating that Chinese cinema (from Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China) has dealt with questions of gender and sexuality more frankly and more provocatively than any other national cinema. Examples shows how issues of sexual identity have always been at the forefront of Chinese films. Includes interviews with directors John Woo, Chen Kaige, Tsui Hark and Ang Lee and clips from some 45 Chinese films.
