Synopsis
Discusses the incidence, diagnosis and management of depression by a group comprising GPs, psychiatric workers and a patient who suffered a severe depression. Stresses early diagnosis and the recognition of the effectiveness of tricyclic drugs and mentions the role of the Samaritans. Reviews the pharmacology of the anti-depressant drugs and emphasises adequate dosage for an adequate time.
