Wooden Curtains
- Synopsis
- A drama-documentary examining the human consequences of official policy on racial harassment: in March 1986 a Filipino woman moved into a council house in Sunderland with her husband; 11 weeks later they left under a police escort. Actors portray the couple, both in a reconstruction of events during those 11 weeks and two years on, directly addressing the viewer about how they felt then and now and about their dealings with bureaucracies that didn’t seem to want to listen. Includes interviews with representatives from the police, the local authority, the Commission for Racial Equality, and the Bangladeshi community in Sunderland.
