Women of the Yellow Earth
- Synopsis
- Follows two women who become neighbours in a village in the Yellow Earth district of northern China. Their homes are caves cut into the cliff terraces. One arrives in procession from the neighbouring village to begin life with her new husband’s family, and the couple have bought a television set. The other woman and her husband have had their television confiscated as a punishment for having a third child. Additionally the wife is compulsorily sterilised and has to walk away from the operating table and struggle back home over the mountains, to the house next door to the bride.
