Wombs for Rent

Synopsis
Asks whether it is right for childless couples to ‘rent a womb’ and pay for the services of a surrogate mother. Kim Cotton, Britain’s first surrogate mother argues that we should learn from Bill Handel, whose California clinic offers ‘professional’ surrogacy and undertakes to minimises the risks. Joan Bakewell discusses the issues with Kim Cotton, Bill Handel, Professor Ian Craft, Dr David Cook and Dr Linda Hogan.
