Wismut, Die
- Synopsis
- Focuses on Wismut, the uranium mining company set up by the Soviet Union in 1946 as part of Germany’s war reparations. Throughout the GDR’s existence, extremely large amounts of enriched uranium were produced under extremely lax safefy conditions. A totally taboo subject at the time, director Volker Koepp is able, following the demise of the GDR, to investigate the impact of this life-endangering work on those employees, many of them forced labourers, who have survived.
