Widowing of Mrs Holroyd, The

Synopsis
An adaptaton of D H Lawrence’s 1926 play exploring life in a mining community in 1914. Tells the story of Lizzie Holroyd (ZoÎ Wanamaker), a miner’s wife yoked to a husband (Colin Firth) she despises for his drinking, violence and womanising. She turns for consolation to her admirer Blackmore (Stephen Dillane) but, when the next day her husband’s corpse is brough back from the pit, she is overwhelmed with guilt and a tremendous sense of reponsibility.
