Who Shall Live and Who Shall die?

Synopsis
The story of the political battle that took place in the United States to prevent the extermination of the Jews during World War 2. From the Evian Conference of 1938 the Jewish question was a prime political topic in America. When news of the exterminations reached Washington in 1942, governmental response was the result of political calculations. Combines interviews with participants in the fight to save European Jewry with archival footage, previously classified governmental documents, and photographs and interviews with concentration camp survivors, to depict America’s role in the face of the extermination of an entire people. Shows that the American government knew of the exterminations while they were taking place and reveals the efforts that led to a complete reversal of American policy and the establishment of a special agency to rescue the Jews in 1944. The agency’s accomplishments are contrasted with the result of the actions of the State and War Departments prior to 1944.
