Whisper from Space
- Synopsis
- In 1956 two scientists at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey identified a whisper of radiation that is now believed to have been emitted shortly after the big bang. U-2 spy plane detectors (which were directed upwards instead of downwards) have found a deviation in radiation that is explained by the notion that our galaxy is travelling through space at more than a million miles an hour. Philip Morrison, Professor of Physics at the Massachussetts Institute of Technology tells the story and looks at the the future of a universe that is still expanding and asks whether the process is infinite or whether the universe will finally expand and collapse in a series of big bangs.
