What Makes Muscle Pull: The Structural Basis of Contraction

Synopsis
The relation of muscle structure to muscle function and the relation of the protein assembly to the energy flow. The contractile system is dissected and its component protein molecules identified and reassembled step-by-step to show transition between the hydrolysis of ATP and the performance of mechanical work. Animation techniques, electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction techniques and hydrolyzation are used. Made at the Department of Biology, University of Oxford.
