Synopsis: Human activity is a major cause of the rapid increase in the extinction rate of animals. By considering the factors in volved in population dynamics, and by creating a simplified mathematical model, this programme weighs the likelihood of extinction as an outcome of continued hunting of the blue whale. It als asks whether in the light of the recent moratorium on whaling, it is already too late.
