Blue Eye of Siberia, The (2 Parts)

Alternative title
Baikal: Blue Eye of Siberia
Synopsis
Lake Baikal in Siberia is the oldest and deepest lake on earth, holding a fifth of the earth’s fresh water. But the delicate balance of this ancient ecosystem has been endangered by overfishing and industrial pollution. Even if the pollution were stopped now, scientists say it would take the rivers that feed Lake Baikal up to 400 years to restore it to health. A public campaign, led by the writer Valentin Rasputin is being mounted to safeguard the lake.
