Synopsis

The Wellcome Trust supports the Tropical Metabolism Research Unit in the University of the West Indies, Jamaica, for the study of nutritional deficiencies in children. Deficient diets, aggravated by microbial and parasitic infections, lead to serious, often fatal diseases - marasmus and kwashiorkor. The courses of these conditions are analysed and their management is demonstrated.
