Weekend of Geophysics, A: Basic Exploration Techniques

Synopsis
Describes the activities of a group of Scottish teachers and pupils attending a field course in exploration geophysics. The course was sponsored by the Mineral Industry Manpower and Careers Unit and run by the staff from the Mining and Mineral Sciences Department of Leeds University. Five methods used in exploration geophysics were applied: seismic, resistivity measurements, vertical force magnetometer, electro-magnetic gun, and VLF receiver. The principles of these methods, and the equipment used, are described with the help of animated diagrams.
