Waves on a String and Fourier Analysis

Synopsis
Computer-generated images of a stretched string on which disturbances of various shapes propagate are used to illustrate the mathematical properties of transverse waves. Shows the reflection and superposition of pulses and long wavetrains and introduces the mathematics of normal modes. Ends by showing the synthesis of a triangular disturbance.
