Warwork News. No 50

Synopsis
'Warwork News’ was a series of short newsreels produced during World War 2 for distribution in British factories. ‘Churchill visits the front’: a report from Normandy which emphasises the great victory won by the Allies on the beaches. Shows the construction of temporary airfields; visits by Churchill, Montgomery, Eisenhower and Marshall; German footage of the ‘impregnable’ Atlantic wall used to stress the achievement of the troops; camera gun footage of air attacks on enemy supply trains and trucks; German prisoners being taken back across the Channel. It is interesting to compare the editing style and the use of actuality footage employed in this film with the methods employed by the Germans in their D-Day newsreel which, of course, suggests a totally different outcome.
