Synopsis
Uses the propaganda short aimed at servicemen, the documentary, and the feature film to examine the new interest in welfare issues provoked by World War II. Professor Marwick discusses differences between America and Britain in their response to new ideas of a welfare state. The films discussed are DAWN GUARD (1942); EAST SIDE, WEST SIDE; COMMUNITY AT WAR (1943); WORLD OF PLENTY (1942/43); TILL THE END OF TIME (1946); THE GUINEA PIG (1948).
