War Women of Britain: Women at War 1914-1918

Synopsis
Compilation of eight contemporary films from the archive of the Imperial War Museum, chosen to illustrate aspects of life and society in Britain during the First World War, and especially to show how the lives of women were affected by that conflict. The films are as originally shown, without sound. The first four ar documentaries ilustrating the work of varioius women’s organisations, the others are short instructional, informative or recruiting ‘flashes’.
1 (1918): A compilation of material from the newsreel ‘Topical Budget’, including film of the Women’s Land Army, the WACC and the leading suffragettes.
2 (1918): An extract that includes coverage of VAD and FANY nurses with the BEF and of the famoud ‘women of Pervyse’.
