Vulnerable Life, A

Synopsis
All families in Indian villages are vulnerable to some extent, and those in the Bijnor district of Tuuar Pradesh are no exception. The film shows three families with differing lifestyles, one Muslim and two Hindu; one rich in land, one now without land, and one with just enough land to stay afloat. Ram Prasad, with a weak chest, has to pull his rickshaw every day to feed his four children, but the money is rapidly running out. Kumar Satya Vira, with 1000 acres of land, is well off, but he has recently had to divide his land with his two brothers’ families, and one of his sons is threatened by terrorists. Khurshid and Zaheeda work 12 hours a day, every day. They have enough to eat, but providing a dowry for their niece is a serious problem.

Notes
NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
