Synopsis

Deals with three basic techniques involved in microscopic imaging: bright field, dark field and phase contrast. Shows a simple microscope being developed using an optical benchand demonstrates the fundamental theoretical concepts using computer animation. Shows the use of historical and contemporary instruments, noting in particular the illumination systems.
