Black Sun, The

Synopsis
Looks at the solar eclipse over Hawaii on 11 July 1991. The Path of Totality swept over the telescopes of the observatory on Mauna Kea mountain as it passed from the Pacific to South America. Magnetic storms erupting into the sun’s atmosphere cause power failures on earth, change our weather, amd create the aurora borealis. The eclipse was an opportunity for astronomers to study the sun’s corona, which only becomes visible when the sun itself is blacked out.
