Venepuncture

Synopsis
Demonstrates the basic principles of the technique of venepuncture. All aspects of the standard technique are covered beginning with a description of the equipment used together with a demonstration of the handling and preparation of the equipment. Presents guidelines the selection of the vein to use, the correct use of a tourniquet, the preparation of the puncture site, the methods for successful entry of the vein and the subsequent withdrawal of the sample and the removal of the needle. Discusses some of the most commonly encountered problems. The whole procedure is then reiterated during the course of a practical demonstration of the technique.
