- Synopsis
- Deals with the use of alphafetoprotein (AFP) in pregnancy. Starts with a brief discussion on AFP and its sites of production. Demonstrates the various levels found in the different compartments during pregnancy and then proceeds to examine its uses in the detection of neural-tube defects both in mothers with a past history of a neural-tube defect child and as a method of screening those without such a past history. Discusses some of the pitfalls present in such a screening programme.
