Urban Handbook

Synopsis: Made for the Instanbul Conference to highlight the Best Practices Initiative, which was launched as a tool to identify solutions to the social, economic and environmental problems facing a rapidly urbanising and changing world. Cities and communities world-wide were encouraged to submit their experiences in improving their living environment. Five award-winning best practices are shown: 1) the Women’s Self Help Organization - the SEWA Bank in India; 2) the Integration Council in Favelas rehabilitation process, Fortaleza, Brazil; 3) Community Information Resource Centre (CIRC) in Alexandra, South Africa; 4) Local Initiative Programme - community planning process and city/neighbourhood partnership in Lublin, Poland; 5) the city of Chattanooga, Tennesses, USA.
