Synopsis
On the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, reappraises the character and role of Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig in the light of new historical evidence. Looks at the battles he fought, and some of the widely held perceptions about World War 1 and the notorious general accused of sending thousands of British troops to a futile death.
