Synopsis
A video-based resource pack to illustrate the complex role of the United Nations in responding to conflict and problems around the world. The four 30-minute programmes are: 1) The Great Disaster: the history of the conflict in Rwanda and how to prevent future disasters. Examines UN successes and failures in offering humanitarian aid in Rwanda; 2) Last Chance for Peace: Angola, where the UN is promoting a new approach to peace; 3) A Stitch in Time: asks what kind of development is most likely to work in Bolivia, where drugs are believed to be the most profitable export; 4) Power Play: examines the power struggle within the UN and the constraints upon its ability to act efficiently and impartially.
