Typhoid Mary

Synopsis
In 1906 Dr Tony Soper was summoned to Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY, to investigate why typhoid fever had broken out in the house of a rich New York banker. He uncovered a trail of sickness and death left by a roving Irish cook Mary Mallon. Mary was judged to be such a danger to public health that she was placed in an isolation hospital for 23 years. Her case provoked significant changes in the medical establishment’s view on the transmission of diseases and has contemporary relevance in the light of AIDS.
