Twice Five Plus the Wings of a Bird
- Synopsis
- Discusses the teaching of mathematics in schools and how it clashes with the way children learn. Evidence suggests that children possess innate mathematical ability but methods of maths teaching ignore this and allow a cycle of incomprehension, failure, boredom and hatred to build up. One method addressing the situation, shown in practice in an ordinary primary school, involves getting children to invent their own problems to solve, creating puzzles and games which lead them into areas of maths which they have never explored before.
