Twenty-Four Square Miles

Synopsis
Made in rural Oxfordshire in the 1940s the film followed from intensive research into the socio-economic circumstances of a single 24-square-mile area. The original research was incorporated in C S Orwin’s classic book ‘Country Planning’ and it is upon this that the film is based. It provides an unrivalled impression of the British countryside in its last great period of change before the 1980s and has many lessons for today.
