Tune-Up at the Ship

Synopsis
A ‘tune-up’ of traditional folk song, music and dance in the Blaxhall Ship, East Suffolk. ‘Chairman’ Clive Woolnough calls upon those present to contribute. Instrumental music from Oscar Woods, Jen Newson and Steve Pallant on melodeons , Fred ‘Pip’ Whiting on fiddle & bones and Reg Reeder on the hammer-dulcimer. Pip sings ‘Who Owns the Game?' a song which questions the right of the gentry to kill game for sport whilst punishing labourers for poaching, and then goes on to discuss poaching techniques. Geoff Ling sings ‘There is a Tavern’ a song which he inherited from his uncle and then talks about the principle of song ownership. Carole Pegg plays traditional fiddle as she sings Suffolk’s ‘national anthem’, ‘Flash Company’. There are also examples of step-dancing, dancing dolls and the broom dance.
