Tsetse Fly Control
- Synopsis
- One method of reducing the menace of trypanosomiasis to man and animals in Africa is to control the tsetse fly vector. The spraying of insecticide from aircraft or by teams on the ground is effective but expensive. Odour-baited targets and traps that attract and kill the flies are cheaper and are being used locally to reduce tsetse populations near African villages and these are described in the film. New projects based on the use of these insect pheromones and hormones to attract and sterilize the flies are also outlined.
