Trouble on the Terraces
- Synopsis
- Dubbed the ‘English Disease’ in the 1970’s, by the early 1990’s football hooliganism was thought to be on the wane. The footballing authorities believed that improved crowd control measures and the introduction of all-seater stadiums would isolate the problem. However on May 18th 1994, in an organized and premeditated display of violence, a 200-strong group of Millwall supporters disrupted a 1st division play-off game with Derby County. The trouble at the New Den occurred in one England’s newest, state-of-the-art, all seater stadiums. Why?
Utilising infamous archive footage from Britain and abroad and through specially filmed interviews with the police, criminologists, psychologists, anthropologists, hooligans, and fans "Trouble On The Terraces" aims to answer that very question. This definitive documentary also details the measures that have been taken to counter hooliganism over the years, and asks what the future might hold. A controversial video, given an ‘18’ certificate by the film censors because of fears about its potential influence on teenagers. Narrated by Sean Bean.
The DVD version includes a new introduction and analysis, filmed in 2002, from Cass Pennant, author of "Congratulations You Have Just Met The I.C.F." The DVD extras also include an extract from the book itself. - Language
