- Synopsis
- Shot in East Africa, an account of the most numerous bird in the world, the red-billed quelea, and its fight for survival. African governments and international agencies have destroyed millions of quelea to reduce the quantities of seed consumed and crops damaged. Records in detail the establishment of a breeding colony of chestnut weavers and quelea where, within an hour, the males are constructing up to a million nests. Argues that queleas in their natural habitat face population controls far more severe than any man could impose, and man should combat them only in croplands.
